I’m delighted to announce that Junaid Amr Junaid Mahmood has received his Brown Belt last Thursday at Zen-Do. The Brown Belt test is not an easy one to pass, but I have to say Junaid did a brilliant job. He knew all his techniques perfectly, but what was even more impressive was his attitude.
He had a “can-do”, positive attitude that was just amazing. He’s only nine years old, but he had this amazing, positive energy about him that was so nice to see. After going through all his basics, combinations, and Black Belt Attack and Defence techniques he sparred against Zen-Do Senior Instructor Vinod Joseph. And he really tried hard. He kept attacking and fighting even though he was exhausted and even though his opponent was twice his size – mashallah! What an amazing site to behold; to see such a young student try so hard, and to have such a great attitude about his grading.
Credit should also go to his parents, Drs. Amr Junaid and Areez Al-Farisi, who bring him to Zen-Do four times a week without fail. Junaid joined Zen-Do years ago when he was just a “Little Ninjas” student, and his parents have brought him to class regularly, week in, week out. They deserve a lot of credit for their diligence and patience. Unfortunately, we’ve seen cases where children had to stop Zen-Do, even though they did not want to, because their parents got tired of dropping them off all the time. But Junaid’s parents hardly ever miss a class, and they’ve got really busy schedules.
Anyway, Amr and Areez sent me this really nice email that I’d like to share with you:
Dear Sensei Suhail and Sensei Vinod,
Once again, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all your efforts and hard work for training Junaid. I am sure you have seen how he has progressed over the years (esp. the last few months) and all this would not have happened without your dedication and commitment. As much as I am proud of Junaid, I am also proud and honoured to have teachers like yourselves watching over him and guiding him every step of the way.
One reason Junaid works so hard, puts much effort and has the attitude he has is because he looks up to you both. Not only does he hope to make his parents proud, but he insists on making his teachers proud of him as well. We are looking forward to Junaid learning many more things over the years from you (God willing) as long as we are here in Bahrain.
Wishing you all the best.
Amr Junaid Mahmoud, Ph.D.
Thanks Abu Junaid for the kind email and inshallah we’ll see Junaid wearing a Black Belt soon!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and talk to you soon.
