The Magic of Radical Thinking

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post on the importance of thinking differently. I mentioned that THE secret of secrets when it comes to success is to think differently than everyone else.

Today I want to share a quote that I came across after I wrote the blog post. It’s from Henry Ford:

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right”

Henry Ford is credited with inventing the modern assembly line in car manufacturing, as well as other inventions. A few interesting facts I found out about him on the net:

– His formal education is limited – he does not have any formal degrees.

– He’s self taught and learnt how to assemble and disassemble various machines from a young age.

– He constructed his first steam engine at the age of 15.

– He worked for Thomas Edison for several years.

– Ford thought differently than other car manufacturers did. He took ideas from other industries, which he was widely criticised for. He took the idea of standardised parts from the gun manufacturing and photo processing industries, and brought it into his company. He was good at challenging conventional wisdom.

– In today’s money, he would have been worth $188.1 billion.

What I also thought was interesting is that he had several disagreements with his financial backers over the years. His vision was so revolutionary that others couldn’t agree with him. He had to leave his first company and start all over again (the company he left became Cadillac).

There is No Reality

The point I’m trying to make is that everything really comes down to the way you think. Whoever said that there is no reality, but only perception of reality was right. If you think you can achieve something, then yes you can, and if you think you can’t achieve something, then you’re right too.

Henry Ford could have perceived himself to be the son of a poor Irish immigrant farmer, who was meant to be just a farmer too. But he chose not perceive himself like that. He chose to perceive himself as a revolutionary and the creator of a modern industry. It all starts with the way you think. Your thoughts shape your destiny!

How to Change The Way You Think

Just like you learn anything else, practice. Stop yourself every time you have a negative or cynical thought. Start thinking about yourself in a new light. Here’s an eternal truth: we become what we think about the most. If you think like a loser, you’ll be a loser. If you think like a winner, you’ll be a winner. Practice, practice, practice until you get good at it.

Let me give you a couple of personal examples. I mentioned this before but it’s worth repeating. Way, way before I got my Black Belt I saw myself worthy of it, and visualised myself wearing it. I thought like a Black Belt long before I became a Black Belt.

Another example. I’m an author of a book and co-author of another (and have several more planned). The thing is I saw myself, thought like, and acted like an author long before my first book came out. The Great Critic Within (GCW) always nagged me somewhere in the deep abyss of my subconscious, making me ask myself if I was worthy of writing a book. Who was I to write a book?

But I grabbed the GCW by the throat and beat the living daylights out of him! I mean I really let him have it. And once he was lying there on the floor, defenceless, I started kicking him in the head, just to make sure he got the message! I then banished him back to the abyss, and got on with proper, success-oriented thinking.

Of course he’ll be back again one day. He never dies – he only dies when you do 🙁 . But I’ve gotten rid of him for now. He’s somewhere in the deep shadows. Slithering, waiting… slowly recharging and gathering his strength, waiting for the first signs of self-doubt to appear, so he can come charging in with all kinds of calls to wake up to the so-called reality.

Harken on to me my freind. There is no reality. There is only the reality that you choose to create.

Oof! I went off on a tangent there….

Anyway, today I’ve got multiple businesses that are dedicated to helping people improve and change their lives. I started out with nothing but my thoughts. I thought and envisioned all that I have today, long before it happened

Another thing you need to do is study success. Find out how it works. Read self-improvement and personal development books. The great irony about these kinds of books is that the people that need them the most never read them. And those that need them the least (successful people) read them all the time. But there is a reason why they became successful.

If you haven’t read it yet I recommend the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It’s a good step-by-step guide on how to revolutionise the way you think.

Here’s a video of Napoleon Hill talking about the importance of mindset. I really recommend that you watch the video – and buy the book.

I plan on doing a series of video posts on some of the books that have really changed my life. Look out for those.

That’s all for today. I’d like to end this post with another inspiring quote from Benjamin Disraeli:

“Nurture your mind with great thoughts for you will never go any higher than what you think.”

    Well said Suhail.

I read over 5 books that talk about the same idea of “we become what we think about most”. It is such a powerful idea yet not many people realize it

Next step for me is to buy Napoleon Hill’s book

Thank you, keep up the good work, Allah e wafguk and jezak Allah khair

P.S. looking forward to the video series inshallah
